Sicily – Events
Sicilian people are very fond of their land and history. This is the reason why most of their festivals are connected to their habits, customs and traditions. And to their delicious regional cuisine, of course!
Saint Rosalia’s Feast in Palermo is the most popular as it has been taking place for 384 year. Saint Agata’s Feast in Catania ends in a huge procession with 11 “Cannalori” (votive candles) which represent art and craft corporations.
Francavilla di Sicilia Carnival, near Messina, is one of the most ancient and folkloristic events: it is celebrated with a typical ballad, the “Fasuledda“.
Gourmand may be satisfied with Pistachio festival (Bronte, Catania) taking place at the end of september, and the Cannolo festival in Piana degli Albanesi near Palermo.
More recent but already popular is the Cous Cous Festival (September) in San Vito Lo Capo near Trapani. Lots of mediterranean countries take part to this important festival.
Welcome to the Region of Palermo, Lipari and Pantelleria, Etna volcano and Taormina, Cassata, pasta with sardines, Cannoli and much more…
