\"CalabriaCalabria<\/strong> is a very picturesque region between past and present, between nature and folk traditions. The climate is excellent all year round.<\/p>\n

Several protected areas<\/strong> like the Parks of Aspromonte<\/a>, Sila <\/a>and Pollino<\/a>, and many golden beaches like the very famous at Capo Vaticano, boast a pristine nature that blends harmoniously with ancient roots of Magna Graecia.
\nAs an example, Capo Rizzuto Marine Protected Area<\/a>, the largest in Italy, displays many archaeological finds next to flora and fauna. Riace Bronzes are the most famous, housed in the Reggio Calabria National Museum.<\/p>\n

The Coasts<\/strong> offer the chance to perform many sea activities. You can dive with dolphins and sea turtles in the WWF Blue Oasi of Isca rocks, or in Amantea and Belmonte, or discover Costa degli Dei mysterious caves. Fishing is possibile in both coasts.
\nFor those into sports: windsurfing, kite surfing or canoeing or rafting in Lao river or in Sila gorges, or along many rivers in the Pollino National Park.
\nCalabria offers many interesting caves like the Sant’Angelo Caves , the Nun\u2019s cave and the Abyss of Bifurto, one of the forty deepest in the world, perfect for speleology addicted.
\nSeveral routes for trekking are available along the Costa Viola, starting at Maesano Falls, with a beautiful view over Aeolian Islands.<\/p>\n

Other interesting cities<\/strong>: Locri is an ancient Magna Greece city, founded in the VII century BC. Tropea, it used to be Porto Ercole as the legend says it was founded by Hercules himself. It has a very charming historic center, overlooking the sea. Its beaches are ranked by the Sunday Times magazine among the top 20 in Europe.<\/p>\n

Savuto Valley <\/strong>is also very interesting<\/span>. Savuto is a river flowing at<\/span> 1,260<\/span> meters high<\/span>. After covering<\/span> 48 kilometers<\/span> and<\/span> traveled through<\/span> 16 municipalities<\/span>, the<\/span> Savuto<\/span> flows into the<\/span> Tyrrhenian Sea<\/span> in the Gulf<\/span> of<\/span> Lamezia<\/span> Terme<\/span> (<\/span>Gulf of Sat’Eufemia<\/span>).
\nAlong the route<\/span> of the river<\/span> it is possible to see<\/span> the remains of some<\/span> Roman stone bridges<\/span>.
\nThe most famous is<\/span> the<\/span> Hannibal<\/span> Bridge<\/span> built<\/span> by the Romans between<\/span> 131<\/span> and<\/span> 121<\/span> BC<\/span>. It is said<\/span> that the Romans<\/span> then<\/span> destroyed<\/span> it to prevent the escape<\/span> of<\/span> Hannibal in<\/span> 203<\/span> BC<\/span>, but<\/span> that Hannibal<\/span> rebuilt it<\/span> to pass<\/span> its troops<\/span>.
\nThe<\/span> road running alongside<\/span> the<\/span> Savuto river<\/span> was<\/span> in fact<\/span> the<\/span> ancient<\/span> Via<\/span> Popilia<\/span> connecting<\/span> the old<\/span> Capua to<\/span> Reggio<\/span> Calabria<\/span>.That’s why in the<\/span> valley there are important evidences<\/span> of the past history<\/span>.
\nFor<\/span> example<\/span> in the Town Hall of Crapanzano<\/span>, there is a mantle<\/span> given<\/span> by Charles V<\/span> in 1535<\/span> to thank<\/span> residents for<\/span> the hospitality<\/span> reserved to him<\/span>. Charles V<\/span> also left<\/span> in<\/span> Crapanzano<\/span> some soldiers<\/span> who stopped<\/span> to live<\/span> there<\/span>.
\nAmong the beauties<\/span> of the landscape<\/span>, the<\/span> presence of many<\/span> chestnut trees: chestnuts<\/span> are<\/span> a<\/span> typical ingredient<\/span> of the dishes<\/span> of the valley<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
