Cherry Festival – Raiano
On the first weekend of June, in the province of L’Aquila.
On the first weekend of June (this year on Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3, 2018) a rich program of events animates the streets of Raiano, a small village in the province of L’Aquila, for the Cherry Festival – also known as “Maggiolata“.
The event was first organized in 1946, on the same day of Saint Venanzio’s Day, the village’s protector.
In 1950, it became an autonomous recurrance. Every year, the festival is enriched with parades of allegorical wagons, exhibitions of traditional customs, dances and choirs, all celebrating cherries, the fuit symbol of Raiano.
The Cherry Festival ends with the wagons’ parade, which includes a little wagon for kids.
