Marche
The region Marche is located in Central Eastern Italy between Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, the Republic of San Marino, Lazio and Abruzzo. To the West, it overlooks the Adriatic Sea.
The capital region is Ancona. Other provinces are: Ascoli-Piceno, Fermo, Macerata and Pesaro-Urbino.
Urbino, hometown of painter and architect Raffaello, was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is considered the pearl of Italian Renaissance thanks to its architectural and artistic works realized by the lords of the city, the Dukes of Montefeltro.
Fermo is a town of Roman origins with remaining vestiges.
The historical Fabriano paper mills in Fabriano are active from the second half of the 13th century. Very interesting the Museum of Paper and Watermark.
Camerino is a university site from 1336.
Recanati, birthplace of poet Giacomo Leopardi, minted its own money in copper, silver and gold already in 1393 under licence of Pope Boniface IX.
