Girifalco Archery – Massa Marittima

On August 14th. 24 crossbowmen challenge each other

Balestro del Girifalco (Girifalco Archery) is the traditional crossbow competition taking place in Massa Marittima, in the Province of Grosseto, on the fourth Sunday of May and on August 14th.

A Medieval parade opens the celebrations.
Twenty-four crossbowmen, eight for each “Terziere” of the Tuscan town, challenge each other. The closer an arrow lands to the center of the target (called “corniolo”), the more points are awarded.
