Giostra della Quintana. The Rematch – Foligno

September 14-15, 2024. After the first round of Quintana, the Rematch

On September Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th, 2024, three months after the first round called Sfida (Challenge), Giostra della Quintana is back in Foligno with the Rivincita (Rematch)  showing the same compelling development.

During the weeks before the Giostra, the taverns of the 10 districts are open and prepare traditional recipes of the 17th-century cuisine, using products grown in the Foligno area.

The program
Saturday, the night before the joust, a wonderful Historical Parade is taking place with more than 800 people wearing baroque costumes.

On Sunday, the ten districts of Foligno challenge each other again in the Medieval tournament taking place in the eight-shaped path of Campo de li Giochi, the ancient Foligno stadium.

The goal of the competition is to ride around the 750-meter track three times, as quickly as possible, trying to insert the lance into a ring hanging from a statue of Mars without getting any penalties.
The ring gets smaller every time: 6 cm, 5,5 cm and 5 cm.

The Quintana
The first record of Quintana dates back to 1613 while the modern version of Quintana dates back to 1946.
The word “Quintana” comes from the 5th road of Roman military camps, where the soldiers were trained in lance fighting.
