Events, food, experiences for an unforgettable trip to Italy

Trentino Alto Adige – Events

Trentino Alto Adige welcomes tourists with the beauty of landscapes and the taste of local cuisine in an atmosphere both ancient and modern at the same time. That’s why many events and traditional festivals in Trentino are also often connected to nature.

There are many folkloristic events such as the San Leonardo Horse Ride in the small hamlet of San Leonardo di Badia which celebrates its Patron in early November, the Peasant Wedding in Castelrotto taking place in January is the historical reenactment of a traditional 19th-century rural wedding.

Very famous are the Christmas markets that are set up during the Christmas period in Bolzano, Merano and Trento

Many events related to typical foods and products such as the Yogurt Days in Vipiteno in July, the Gran Festa da d’Istà in Canazei in September and the Speck Festival in Santa Maddalena in October.

Among the best known carnivals are the Carnival of the Matoci in Valfloriana, one of the few old carnivals survived in the Alps and the Carnival of Serrada is the only “futurist style” Carnival, dedicated to the artist Fortunato Depero (born in Trentino). All the outdoor decorations as well as costumes, the scenery and the wagons are inspired by Futurism.
Rovereto is also home to the Depero Futurist Art House, the only museum in Italy created by a futurist artist.

Trentino is the destination for many sports and for this reason, it hosts many sporting events in winter such as the Marcialonga in Fiemme and Fassa Valleys, the Ötzi Alpin Marathon in Naturno, and also in summer the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike in Villabassa and the DoloMyth Run in Canazei.

A very particular event is the Festa del Sole in Pré, on the bottom Ledro Valley. The village does not see the sun for three months because it is covered by the mountains. But on February 5th the first rays of sun reappear from the ridges of the mountains and all people in the village, tourists, native and neighbours celebrate the sun eating and dancing in the streets.
The Magnarustega is a curious gourmet walk in the valley of the Rio Cavallo (in August in Folgaria, in the province of Trento).
Also in August, in Transaqua, the Palio della Sloiza, the large wooden sled that was used to transport hay.
In September, the Feast of the Woodman in Molina di Fiemme is a competition among lumberjacks and the Desmalgada de Stramaiol, in late September in Bedollo (Trento) celebrates the return of cattle from the mountain pastures to the village
