Station of the Cross – Claut
10 April 2020. The religious procession of Good Friday, in the province of Pordenone.
Every year, the municipality of Claut, in the province of Pordenone, represents the Passion of Christ with the Via Crucis (Station of the Cross) on Good Friday, which this year is on April 10th, 2020.
The main character of the procession is Jesus Christ, embodied by a barefoot man dressed in white robes, covered with a hood and supporting a cross on his shoulder.
The procession stops 14 times to celebrate the 14 stations that mark Christ’s ascent toward Mount Golgata. The stations are represented with real figures, adults and kids, who recall the different phases of Christ’s Passion.
The Station of the cross ends with a representation of the crucifixion of Christ and the two thieves.
For the occasion, the houses, courtyards and windows of the village of Claut are illuminated with red lights and candles while the streets are illuminated with flashlights and burning braziers.
The Via Crucis proceeds with the sound of the Batatocs, a wooden instrument which sound is similar to the drum, to represent in a symbolic way the drums that follow through Jesus in the crucifixion.
