Artichoke Festival in Ramacca
22-25 April 2022. A long week-end dedicated to the area’s traditional products.
The Artichoke Festival in Ramacca, that in 2022 reaches its 30th edition, is one of the most important events connected to Sicilian food.
The festival is held from April 22nd to 25th, 2022. Its aim is promoting the violet artichoke, also called “Violetto Ramacchese”, which has been harvested in the countryside around Ramacca, a small village in the province of Catania, for centuries.
The event takes place in the historical center of Ramacca.
Visitors can taste artichoke-based dishes, enjoy live concerts, attend workshops, go on guided tours (of the Archaeological Museum or the Music Bands of Sicily Museum), or on long excursions along the naturalistic path of the Crystals of Gesso…
Ramacca’s name’s origins are probably Arabic: the name could come from Rammuallah (ground or Allah’s garden) or Ramaq (observatory), or even Rammak (mares’ guardian).
